Privacy Policy

Your walk with God is sacred - and so is your privacy. This page explains what information Christian Journey handles, what we deliberately do not touch, and the minimal set of third-party services we rely on to run the app.

The short version

  • Your devotional content stays on your device. Prayers, reflections, notes, faith tracking, service logs, and preferences live only on your phone - we never see them.
  • We don't sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers. Ever.
  • We use two third-party services to run the app. PostHog for anonymous product analytics and experiments, and RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. Both are detailed below, and neither receives your devotional content.
  • No account required. We don't ask for an email, phone number, or login to use the app.
  • The only identifier the app asks for is a name or label you choose. You can call yourself "Me," "Pilgrim," or anything. It's used only to greet you, and it stays on your device.

What the app stores on your device

Christian Journey is a local-only app. The following stays entirely on your device, in storage managed by iOS or Android:

  • The name or label you choose.
  • Your preferences and settings (reminder times, themes, etc.).
  • Your prayer entries, reflections, and notes.
  • Your faith tracking history and streaks.
  • Your service logs.
  • Bookmarks and saved scriptures.

We have no server that receives or mirrors any of this. When you uninstall the app, this data is deleted with it. We cannot recover it for you, because we never had a copy.

What we do not do

To be explicit:

  • We do not require an email address, phone number, or account to use the app.
  • We do not sell or monetize your data.
  • We do not run advertising networks or third-party ad SDKs inside the app.
  • We do not read the contents of your prayers, reflections, or notes - they stay on your device.
  • We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, or health data.
  • We do not fingerprint your device or attempt to identify you across devices for marketing.

Device permissions

The app may ask for the following permissions. All are opt-in, and you can revoke them in your device settings at any time without losing access to the app:

  • Notifications - used for prayer reminders you choose to schedule. Reminders are generated locally on your device; nothing is sent from a server.

Product analytics: PostHog

We use PostHog to understand how people use the app at an aggregate, anonymous level and to run experiments that help us improve the app and our App Store / Google Play promotion campaigns.

What PostHog receives:

  • An anonymous, PostHog-generated identifier - not your name, email, or anything you typed into the app.
  • Event data: which screens you opened, which buttons you tapped.
  • Device metadata: OS version, device model, app version, language, timezone.
  • Experiment assignments - which variant of a feature you were shown.

What PostHog never receives:

  • Your prayers, reflections, notes, or any devotional content you enter.
  • Your chosen name or label from the app.
  • Your location, contacts, or health data.

PostHog's privacy policy: posthog.com/privacy. If you have concerns about analytics data associated with your device, contact us at the email below and we will work with PostHog to locate and delete it.

Subscription management: RevenueCat

We use RevenueCat to manage optional in-app subscriptions across Apple App Store and Google Play. RevenueCat verifies your purchase, keeps your subscription in sync across your devices, and handles renewals and restores.

What RevenueCat receives:

  • The purchase receipt issued by Apple or Google.
  • An anonymous app user ID - not linked to your name or email.
  • Subscription status and entitlements.
  • Basic device and app metadata needed to verify your entitlement.

RevenueCat never receives any devotional content you create in the app. Your payment method, billing address, and tax information are handled by Apple or Google - not RevenueCat, and not us.

RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.

Operating system providers (Apple, Google)

The operating system itself (Apple iOS or Google Android) may collect aggregated, anonymous technical information - crash reports, installation metrics, store analytics - governed by Apple's and Google's own privacy policies:

These flows are controlled by the operating system, not by us. In-app purchases and subscription payments are processed by Apple or Google - we never see your payment information or billing address.

Website newsletter (optional)

This website offers an optional email signup for a weekly devotional. This is separate from the app. If you choose to subscribe:

  • Your email address is sent to Loops, our email service provider, and stored solely for delivering the devotional.
  • You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
  • We don't use your email for anything other than the weekly devotional.
  • Loops' privacy practices are available at loops.so/privacy.

Using the website without signing up for the newsletter requires no data from you.

Children's privacy

Christian Journey is designed for general audiences, including families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction), because we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has somehow provided personal information to us, please contact us at hello@christianjourney.app and we will investigate.

Your rights

Because we don't collect or store your personal data:

  • You own everything on your device. Delete the app to delete the data. There is no server-side copy to remove.
  • Newsletter subscribers can unsubscribe anytime via the link in any email, or by emailing us.
  • GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and similar data-protection rights - residents of the European Union, United Kingdom, California, and other jurisdictions have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about them. The only records we (or our processors) might hold that could qualify are: your newsletter email if you chose to subscribe, your anonymous PostHog analytics record, and your anonymous RevenueCat subscription record. Contact us at the email below and we will process deletion or access requests within 30 days.

Data security

Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security measures - passcode, biometrics, and OS-level encryption. We recommend keeping your operating system up to date. For the newsletter, Loops uses industry-standard security practices.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note it prominently in the app or on this website. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
